SHTCA introduced the Work-based Learning (WBL) Diploma in Hotel Management program with a comprehensive industrial training practicum in 2012, where the students apply what they learn in the classroom for 6-10 months in a paid internship programme. A partnership with DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Penang ensures students learn on the job in their industrial training program.
In support of the national initiative Economic Transformation Programme (ETP), UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College, the cluster leader under The Malaysia Centre for Tourism and Hospitality Education (MyCenTHE), this special program is designed to resemble an apprenticeship training program on top of the classroom tertiary education experience they receive from UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College.
