What is Artificial Intelligence?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a wide-ranging branch of computer science concerned with building smart machines capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence.
AI is the ability of a digital computer or computer-controlled robot to perform tasks commonly associated with intelligent beings. The term is frequently applied to the project of developing systems endowed with the intellectual processes characteristic of humans, such as the ability to reason, discover meaning, generalize, or learn from past experience.
The Industry IR 4.0
Industry Revolution 4.0 refers to a new phase in the Industrial Revolution that focuses heavily on inter-connectivity, automation, machine learning, and real-time data.
The IR 4.0 isn’t just about investing in new technology and tools to improve manufacturing efficiency—it’s about revolutionizing the way your entire business operates and grows.
Element of IR 4.0
Cyber Physical System
Sensor to Actuator Flow
Internet of Things (IOT)
A computing system with the ability to transfer data over a network without the interaction of human-to-human or human-to-computer.
Smart Technology
The word “SMART” refers to “self-monitoring, analysis, and reporting technology”. It provides cognitive awareness to objects that were in the past considered inanimate.
Smart Home
CCTV
Smart Water
Energy Consumption
SMart Product Management
Big Data

IR 4.0: MIXED RICE VERSION
An example of IR 4.0 applied to a Mixed Rice Restaurant:
Camera vision keeps track of the selling speed of dishes.
Using big data to analyse earning and wastage and adjust the cost.
Adding the cost of the raw material everyday, Al decided to decide the dish to be sold.
Adding seasonal information about the raw material and providing forecasts.
Monitor everything in your phone (IoT).

Q & A Session
Does petroleum engineering require knowledge in organic chemistry?
It is not necessary. Organic chemistry is commonly used in Chemical engineering. Chemical engineering and petroleum engineering are very different. Chemical engineering is all about using chemistry to develop fuel, drugs and new substances; Whereas petroleum engineering covers chemistry and geology to extract oil and gas from under the earth’s surface.
What are the differences between Mechatronic Engineering and Computer Engineering?
Mechatronic engineering studies movement. Mechatronic engineers design and maintain machinery with electronic and computer control systems, such as aircraft, robots, motor vehicles, cameras, power generators and mining and chemical plant machinery
Computer engineering is about adding technology, intelligence and robotics into the current systems. It is also about building devices, designing computer networks and developing new technologies. They are focused on computer hardware and understanding how to optimize hardware for different applications.
What are the challenges in the IR 4.0 Mixed Rice principle
Cost is the main issue. Everything involves costs and maintenance. Bosses in the younger generations and upcoming generations are more likely to embrace or adapt to the usage of AI or IR 4.0 due to the lack of manpower, which is the reason why we need more engineers in our society and in Malaysia.
How important is Artificial Intelligence in today’s society?
We are all living in a world that is full of Artificial Intelligence. It is basically ubiquitous in our daily lives. AI allows organizations and people to make better decisions, improving core business processes by increasing both the speed and accuracy of strategic decision-making processes.
