Diploma in Quantity Surveying

Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur (IUKL)
Kajang, Selangor
ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME
Quantity surveying is not a new programme but not many of us know what it actually is.

Diploma in Quantity Surveying prepares students with a wide range of quantifying and managerial skills, construction technologies, economics and legal aspects of construction contract.

The programme is unique in its approach to the measurement work for building construction and also infrastructure works which are related to civil engineering. The aim of this programme is to produce quantity surveying graduates who are well equipped with the fundamental theoretical principles and skills in the field of quantity surveying that would prepare them in practicing the QS discipline.

Take for instance the buildings that we buy, either for our own use or investment, we would never know the process or calculation involved to come out with the building cost. This is where quantity surveyors play a role. They are engaged to calculate the construction costs, control the financial and contractual administration of construction projects.

This is a challenging programme alongside Engineering and Architecture which leads to an interesting career.

Is this programme for me?
If you have a practical mind and strong numerical and financial management skills, this programme would be suitable for you. A career as a Quantity Surveyor could be ideal for you!

What will I learn?
The programme is unique since it’s developed around a combination of five (5) main subject clusters: Measurement Studies, Technology Management Studies, Professional Practice Management Studies, Economics Studies and Basic Computing Management Studies.

Thus this programme not only prepares students with the theoretical knowledge but it also provides students with the managerial skill which is useful for working in the industry.

What should I expect?
Graduates will be trained with a holistic understanding of the theoretical and technical aspects of quantity surveying.

Throughout the study period, a series of site visit will be conducted to expose the students to the construction activities, construction material and services. Besides, exposing the students to the actual working environment and enhancing their knowledge and skill from what they have learned in the university, the student will undergo 12 weeks industrial training at a construction related company. At the end of the semester, the student will have to carry out final project which would develop a student’s self-confidence and teamwork spirit.
